- About 6 GB disk space
- VirtualBox (Windows, Linux, Mac) http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads or
- VMware (Windows, Linux) http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
Instant Contiki is an entire Contiki development environment in a virtual machine. The download is fairly large (about 1.7 Gb) and Instant Contiki requires a bit of disk space (around 6 Gb), but it helps tremendously in terms of getting up to speed quickly.
Instant Contiki is a complete virtualised Linux system that contains Contiki and all its development tools. The hardware requirements for Instant Contiki are a decent CPU (1.5+GHz advisable) as well as a good amount of memory (2GB of RAM advisable, ideally 4GB or more). For configuring your own virtual machine see Instant Contiki Install Scripts.
Instant Contiki makes the installation of Contiki very easy: just download the zip file, unzip it, and run the VMware player. No need to go through lengthy installation processes or worry about incompatibilities with compilers, Java versions, or other tool chains.
