Dive VRML and WWW
Artwork by Kevin Hughes, kevinh@eit.com, Enterprise Integration Technologies.
The SICS Dive VRML activity aims at interfacing DIVE with the evolving
VRML standard. Currently, Dive
can import VRML 1.0 files. However, since VRML 1.0 neither contains
interaction, behaviour nor multi-user support, many of the features of
Dive can not be specified in VRML format. As such, only "static" VRML
scene descriptions can be loaded. For full interaction, multi-user
support and behaviour, the Dive file format must be used.
We plan to follow the VRML 1.1/2.0 and behaviour proposals which will probably
map more nicely to the DIve functionalities.
A free
yacc/lex VRML parser is available. The Dive VRML interface is
based on the parser, enabling the browsing of VRML documents along
with regular Dive documents.
Related to the VRML activity is the web activity where the status is
the following:
- A WWW interface enabling users to fetch any document over http and ftp.
- A Dive/Mosaic interface using the Mosaic CCI interface.
- An integrated html browser is currently being incorporated in the Dive release.
