Abstract
Total Recall is a system that allows in-place recall of captured whiteboard annotations. The capture is based on a commercial system (Mimio). However, instead of displaying the annotations on a separate computer, Total Recall shows the annotations at the place on the board where they actually were made. To achieve this, the user holds up a hand-held computer to the board and moves it to reveal the desirable portion of the captured annotations. We used ultra-sonic positioning (from Mimio) and optimised graphics implemented on our own graphics platform Gapidraw. This combination makes the application very responsive and accurate. We argue that Total Recall introduces a way of viewing actual whiteboard annotations that is more natural and intuitive than current desktop-based systems.
