’Master
Class’ in Interactive Narratives
held September 1-3, 2003,
at Stockholm University, Kista.
The art and
techniques for telling stories in interactive media have long
been under debate. Story telling is an integral part of human
culture, as is gaming, and in many electronic games the two forms
of culture meet. But gaming and story telling are not the same
thing, and recently many researchers as well as practitioners
have developed interactive environments where story telling rather
than gaming is the main objective.
In this mini-course
we investigated different approaches to interactive storytelling,
the role of characters and drama, as well as technology directed
towards interactive story telling. It featured some of the European
experts on interactive drama as lecturers, as well as experts
in the area of construction of live role playing.
From this
web page, it is possible to access the lecture notes as well as
the documentation of the course assignments that students did
during the course.
