About the Nordic Computational Linguistics Network
The Nordic Computational Linguistics Network web site was created in
Midsummer 1995
by Jussi Karlgren after the Nordic Computational Linguistics
Conference in Helsinki. Pernilla Danielsson contributed the original
header.
The intention was for the web page to serve as a repository of materials
relating to the biannual NoDaLiDa meetings and as a notice board for the
participants. Since then the scope has grown, and now the aim is to
- cover most materials published in the general area of language technology in the Nordic countries;
- collect those materials into a library-like environment;
- preserve them in some reasonably open and hopefully archival format;
- afford the texts some form of authority through their status as objects in a library;
- make the texts accessible to the general public;
- provide search and access tools to facilitate such access for various identified tasks;
- encourage and serve as a vehicle for research in the general area of information access and in the specific area of informatino access systems for the Nordic languages;
- make relevant groups of potential users aware of the
existence of the collection; and
- stay on line.
The site is currently maintained by
Jussi Karlgren
and
Preben Hansen
at
SICS
as part of the
Digital Libraries project.
Much of the material is scanned in by Stina Nylander and Silja
Karlgren during 1998 and as part of the project goals we will investigate automatic
correction of some of the scanning errors.
During 1998, Anette Hulth and Anna Jonsson will install and develop various access systems to the collection.
