Networked systems

Network technology is one of the most established research areas at SICS. Traditionally, networks research has focused on architectures and protocols. However, in recent years it has become evident that networks need to be more aware of, and adapt to, the applications they support and vice versa.

In 2006, SICS was awarded funding to start SICS Center for Networked Systems (CNS), one out of eight new national “Institute Excellence Centers”. CNS will allow SICS to strengthen its position in the emerging area of networked systems, while continuing to be at the leading edge in traditional networks research. Current research issues being addressed at SICS include future Internet architectures and protocols, new methods and technologies for network management, and wireless sensor networks.

SICS collaborates closely with both large and small technology companies in the networked systems area. Key industry partners include Ericsson, TeliaSonera, ABB, SAAB SDS, and T2 Data.
