THE
SWEDISH LEARNING SYSTEMS SOCIETY - SSLS
and
the Working Group for Learning Systems
The Swedish Learning Systems
Society - SSLS - is an association of people interested in
learning systems. To become a member, an application for membership should
be sent to the Working Group for Learning Systems (E-mail to the
chair: Anders Holst).
The
Working Group for Learning Systems is the board for SSLS,
and has further these tasks:
- Arrange the SSLS annual meeting
- Distribute information in the area
of learning systems
- Organize seminars and conferences
- Maintains the list of members of
SSLS
Background
In Swedish industry, universities and technical institutes there is
an increasing interest for Artificial Neural Networks and Learning System
techniques. To meet a need for exchange of information, knowledge and experience
a working group for ANN was formed June 7 1991. As a first measure the
ANN working group took the initiative to establish SNNS, the Swedish Neural
Network Society. Since the start, the field has developed, and the area
of interests of SNNS has therefore been extended to cover nearby areas.
The working group changed it name to the Working Group of Learning Systems,
and at the annual meeting November 25th 1999 SNNS changed it name to SSLS
(Svenska Sällskapet för Lärande System) - the Swedish
Learning Systems Society.
Objectives
To increase the knowledge about Learning Systems in Swedish industry
so that these techniques will be applied early for purposes suitable for
them. The main focus is on solving real problems for which a learning system
is more appropriate than a more conventional method. Effective use of Learning
Systems aims at improving the competitiveness of the Swedish trade and
industry.
Activities
The working group intends to:
-
Uphold a contact net within the learning systems community, among other
through the committee itself and through the interest association SSLS,
the Swedish Learning Systems Society.
- When needed provide viewpoints and function as an advisory body and
reference group on matters concerning Swedish research and development.
-
Encourage activities such as
-
Disseminating knowledge about Learning Systems
-
Uses of Learning Systems
-
Development of applications
-
Development of tools
-
Research
-
International contacts
-
Cooperation between business and academic communities.
-
Bridge the borders between different techniques and disciplines within
the learning systems area.
Examples of activities are:
-
Organizing seminars with prominent representatives from the field
-
Upholding an electronic conference net
-
Spreading information in other ways, e g through articles and reports
Organizing joint study visits

The
Network for Learning Systems
The working group is also supporting the maintenance of the
Network for Learning
Systems, a contact network between researchers and industry
regarding learning systems. This network has a mailinglist for among
others announcements of seminars in the area, and there is a page with
links to similar organizations worldwide.
