One of the primary architects of DIVE (Distributed Interactive Virtual Environment), an internet-based multi-user VR system where participants navigate in 3D space and see, meet and interact with other users and applications. Focus on behaviours and animations, integration with the World Wide Web and networking issues.

 

Gendarmerie Nationale      (Paris, France)

Military Service, 9 months in 1993-94

 

Improvement of the GIS (Geographic Information System) developped for one of the french Police (Gendarmerie). This GIS was about to be implemented in more than 100 big towns in France. It was composed of two parts: one running on UNIX servers (ArcInfo, Oracle and some programs in C language) and the other on PC (ArcView and Visual Basic).

Full-time job, 4 months in 1993

 

Design and development of a realistic terrain renderer module. The resulting piece of code has been added to DIVE (Distributed Interactive Virtual Environment), a C language toolbox aimed at creating and using distributed virtual environments. Optimizations were made on data structures, distribution, field of view delimiters and rendering (Sun XGL and GL). Participation to users and reference manual.

Integration of teleconferencing facilities in DIVE (audio and video using IP multicasting). Coauthor of an article in the proceedings of the 5th MultiG workshop.

Development of a demo aimed at pointing out the multimedia capabilities of HP workstations. Management of more than 20 workstations: system administration, installs, hot-line, loan scheduling, ... Technical and commercial presentations of HP products.

Training period then part-time job, 10 months in 1991-92

 

Design and development of a 3D modeler with an object oriented programming language (C++). The main interesting points were the necessity for variable 3D coordinates and the respect of the firm-made human interface. Porting of the home-made applications to X11r4.
