BG Björn Gambäck

"Björn" means bear, an animal known to appear in fables (as "the dumb one"...).
My favorite bear is (of course!) Winnie the Pooh (Nalle Puh). POOH
"Gam' bäck" means "old brook" in northern Swedish dialect
(part of my family comes from the village Lycksele
which is in the southern part of Swedish Lappland).

Leisure activities

Before wrecking a knee and starting to tour the research world, I played a lot of football,
most recently in "Norrtulls SK" and "BK Glada Gossarna" (local amateur league), (but would rather have played with The Best, "AIK"...).
Currently, my main contact with football is as a referee in Stockholm's lower divisions.
Floorball in "Östermalms IBS", sailing, badminton, squash, table-tennis, long-distance running and bridge have also been
on the agenda. But the main interest has always been chess, currently mainly in the Stockholm club Kristallens SK where I'm chairman and tournament director.
However, on my list of "claim to fame" things I am (as far as I know) the only Swede
who has become Finnish Chess Champion (when I worked halftime in Helsinki 97-99
I managed to win the Finnish Team League with Helsingin Shakkiklubi).

Before returning to the North, I spent a couple of years 95-97 in the Heart of Europe,
mainly in Saarbrücken, Germany, but also in Strasbourg, France. There I worked far too
much, but also had time to really start liking the French-German borderland region, its
history and its excellent wines, in particular those from Moser-Saar-Ruwer (Germany)
and Alsace (France) (if you haven't tasted a Riesling Brand from François Bauer et fils,
Domaine de Langehald, Turckheim, do it!).

At any time I read a lot and like listening to more or less forgotten punk bands and
folk-punk(?!) bands like the Pogues.

Family

I was born at a very early age, by two parents: one male and one female.
