Formerly I was a postdoc at CASA, working on static analysis of Javascript. My research as a graduate student was on Supercompilation, a program transformation that removes intermediate structures and performs program specialization, for functional languages such as Timber or Haskell. Interests:

My current research is on designing languages and tools for programming parallel systems. I also reside in the sequential world by building tools that can statically find problems in JavaScript programs.

• [Jul 2012] ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished paper award to Remedying the Eval that Men Do at ISSTA'12.
• [Apr 2012] Remedying the Eval that Men Do, Simon Holm Jensen, Peter A. Jonsson and Anders Møller; Accepted by ISSTA'12. We automatically refactor JavaScript programs that contain calls to eval into equivalent JavaScript programs that do not contain calls to eval.
• [Apr 2011] Time- and Size-Efficient Supercompilation, Peter A. Jonsson; Doctoral thesis. This is a revised and improved version of my previous work, along with some new findings. The two major contributions are: 1) a call-by-value supercompilation algorithm with proofs of correctness; and ii) controlling code explosion by speculatively supercompiling expressions and discard the result if the outcome is bad.

• [May 2010] Strengthening Supercompilation For Call-By-Value Languages, Peter A. Jonsson and Johan Nordlander; accepted by META 2010. We strengthen our supercompiler to remove more intermediate structures than our previous POPL'09 supercompiler does.
• [Mar 2009] Supercompiling Overloaded Functions, Peter A. Jonsson and Johan Nordlander; submitted to ICFP 2009. We show how the dictionary allocations mentioned by Wadler & Blott can be automatically eliminated with an ordinary supercompiler. We also show how a small extension to the folding mechanism of our supercompiler can give results similar to those by the static argument transformation (SAT).
