Keynote speaker: Doug Burger, Microsoft Research:
Transitioning from the Era of Multicore to the Era of Specialization
VIDEO AND ABSTRACT

_________________
Many researchers are exploring hardware specialization as the next frontier to drive continued improvements in computing efficiency and performance. This talk describes how programmable hardware based on FPGA chips can bridge this gap and permit specialization while also supporting reasonable levels of productivity.

PRESENTATION

Keynote speaker: David Hansquine, Qualcomm:
Mobile Processor Design Pitfalls
VIDEO AND ABSTRACT

_________________
While years of research for more conventional processors have provided a trail of breadcrumbs to follow, they may not be entirely applicable to mobile. This talk explores some of the “traps” or “pitfalls” in simply following the breadcrumbs by examining the assumptions and technologies while presenting data from commercial mobile devices.

PRESENTATION

Erik Berg, Ericsson: Energy Efficient Parallel Software for Radio Access Networks
VIDEO AND ABSTRACT

_________________
The increasing number of radio base stations for mobile communication emphasizes the need for improved energy efficiency. Better alignment of the hardware and software properties is one way to reduce energy consumption. Another approach is to design scalable software that enables powering down idle devices. This presentation will highlight some of the research activities at Ericsson targeting this increasingly important area, including the EU FP7 Adept project. The Adept project develops models and tools to predict the power consumption and performance of parallel systems.

PRESENTATION

Trevor E. Carlson, University of Ghent: Addressing the Simulation Challenges of Multi-Threaded Workloads
VIDEO AND ABSTRACT

_________________

This talk describes how multi-threaded sampling enables insightful analysis while simulating just a small portion of an application in detail.

PRESENTATION

Ola Dahl, Enea: Portable Accelerated Networking in Multicore Embedded Systems
VIDEO AND ABSTRACT

_________________

The mobile internet revolution drives superlinear growth in data traffic. However, the increasing complexity and diversity of networking functions have led to a need for more programmable and flexible programming environments. This presentation describes OpenDataPlane, and how it can enable innovation in embedded networking.

PRESENTATION

Jimmy Mårdell, Spotify: Cassandra at Spotify - Scaling storage to millions of users world wide
VIDEO AND ABSTRACT

_________________

At Spotify we use Apache Cassandra, a highly robust and scaleable distributed database, for storing data for millions of users. This talk explains how Cassandra manages data synchronization and hardware failures by going into detail about how the replication and anti-entropy mechanisms work.

PRESENTATION

Andrew Richards, Codeplay: Designing heterogeneous programming solutions that interoperate
VIDEO AND ABSTRACT

_________________

Today's processing technologies are made up of system-on-chips (SoCs) and one of the key challenges of developing software for these systems is designing solutions that work together. This talk will describe some of the approaches taken

PRESENTATION

Keynote speaker: Avinash Sodani, Intel:
Multi-core trends in high performance computing
VIDEO AND ABSTRACT
