Abstract

The increasing desire of ubiquitous Internet access has recently promoted the deployment of wireless multi-hop networks in several application domains. However, wireless transmissions are often unpredictable and unreliable, due to the peculiarity of the wireless medium, making routing and data exchange a challenging task.

The talk focuses on routing solutions for wireless mesh networks. In particular, I will describe some approaches based on Opportunistic Routing, which constructs the path hop-by-hop by taking advantage of any available transmission opportunities, so as to turn the challenging peculiarities of wireless transmissions into an opportunity to improve network performance.

To conclude, I will briefly describe an approach for efficient data dissemination in vehicular networks, with the same main goal of achieving reliable data exchange even under critical conditions.
