"Play an open hand in regards to personal data" - Markus Bylund and Jacob Dexe in NyTeknik

"Play an open hand in regards to personal data" is the headline of a debate article in Nyteknik by Markus Bylund and Jacob Dexe at the People Technologies Lab.

A recent survey showed that the Swedish population is torn in its relation to data collection, most are willing to share data if they feel it is being used for adequate purposes, but a majority is also worried about increased collection in general. What we see is a trust gap where users are willing to share, but do not trust the actors online, and the entire industry needs to use data to create new products and better services. The solution is not to stop collecting, but rather to becume more honest about it. If data collectors do not act in a more transparent and responsible manner when it comes to collection and protection of private data, we are at risk of losing the edge Sweden has as a technological test bed and innovation hub.
