The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), along with six academic partners, Linköping University, Blekinge Institute of Technology, Royal Institute of Technology, SICS Swedish ICT, The Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), and Uppsala University, are jointly running a research program known as “Capacity in the railway traffic system” (in Swedish: Kapacitet i järnvägstrafiken – KAJT). The program was established in January 2013. The core activity is in the development of processes and innovations in the field of capacity planning and traffic management from operational service to 40 years in the future.
The vision is to develop the railway traffic system to that it becomes more flexible, more efficient and more reliable in order to achieve an efficient capacity in the railway system for the benefit of citizens and industry during the entire trip / transport in the total transport system.
