MODE: Travel demand estimation using cellular network data

Cellular networks generate large amounts of spatio-temporal data that can fundamentally change how we are able to understand, estimate and predict our transport systems. This data can for example be used for improved dynamic estimation of the travel demand, which is crucial for strategic traffic and infrastructure planning. In the MODE project we develop scalable and integrity-preserving methods for modeling collective mobility patterns using cellular network data, with the purpose of enabling accurate travel time and traffic flow predictions.

The project is a collaboration between SICS, Linköping university, Ericsson, the City of Stockholm, the Swedish Transport Administration and Sweco Infrastructure. SICS' participation is funded by VINNOVA.
