SARPA - Safe and Robust Platform for Automated Vehicles is a Vinnova FFI funded collaboration project between Volvo AB, CPAC, Chalmers, and Mälardalen University.
Incorporating automated functions and autonomy in construction equipment machines would provide a number of benefits over conventional machines. The SARPA project aims to investigate what electronic system architecture is suitable to support VCE future machines in work sites of mixed fleets. The objectives are to develop a concrete recommendation for a future architecture aimed for production, and as part of that, also to develop knowledge and improve methods by performing system architecture analysis. 

Integration of construction machinery
The project aims to identify typical uses of construction equipment in the process industry and based on the survey describe scenarios involving increased automation and integration of plant machinery. The project will investigate the technical requirement specifications for construction machine interfaces with external computer systems, the wireless communication and control room and operator environments. The project will also study architecture for possible future industrial services in the control and monitoring remotely, based on innovative IT solutions and computational support.
